Investigators and uniformed officers who joined them found the man hiding in the rafters of a shed after a lengthy pursuit that began in the area of Hope and Highland avenues last Wednesday, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said.
He’d bolted after the detectives tried to talk with him, then struggled while being taken into custody, Bracken said.
Authorities released the man after processing him on charges of resisting arrest and minor drug possession.
The detective, meanwhile, received treatment for his injury, which he sustained while scaling a fence during the chase, the lieutenant said.
What police didn’t know at the time was that the 19-year-old defendant had identified himself as someone else.
Two days after the chase, they received an alert that he was wanted on an outstanding ICE warrant, Bracken said.
Although Bracken withheld the name, records identify him as Kevin Molina-Guerra, a Salvadoran national living in Clifton.
Detectives went back to the neighborhood, found him and took him into custody again.
This time, they turned him over to ICE after charging him with hindering his arrest.
